ACRES OF BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES …WHERE TO START? — Boerne Star

It was a gorgeous autumn Texas morning – low temps and bright sunshine – as I ventured out early on a Saturday - with juried artist Pauly Tamez who is participating for the first time in the 2014-2015 Art and Conservation: Our Hidden Treasures program. The location was the Pantermuehl Ranch which provided several hundred acres of beautiful landscapes including rolling hills, creek beds, a cactus hill, livestock, a huge area of hay bales and beautiful huge oak trees. As we drove around the property Pauly pointed out several views that he intends to paint. He has visited the ranch several times and has gotten to know the families who own and manage the land.

Art and Conservation: Our Hidden Treasures, is a biennial exhibition and sale intended to raise awareness and promote conservation of the hill country’s natural resources. Juried artists are paired with land owners and given access to private property to create artwork inspired by experiencing the land.

Pauly found a scene he wanted to paint – taking into account the lighting, the shadows and the north wind. I watched as he set up his portable easel and supplies and covered the small canvas with a light colored background. He then created an outline of the trees and creek bed by removing the background color. That was when the magic started – filling in the shapes with small brush movements of color. I was fascinated and moved by the gift of creativity to a talented artist who is able to express the beauty of the landscape.

Pauly and his wife Linda moved to Boerne in 2011. “On the second Saturday of June I walked into an art gallery on Main Street that changed my life. After frequenting that gallery and hanging out with several artists, I decided I wanted to paint again”, explained Pauly.  He holds a full-time job and paints in his free time. He is usually at Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery during the Second Saturday Art and Wine Tour. Go out and meet him and see what he’s currently working on. He has thoroughly enjoyed visiting the ranch and I can’t wait to see all of Pauly’s wonderful paintings!    www.ptamezart.com
